PJ's Village Pub

Editor’s note: As of July 2, 2020, PJ’s Village Pub and Sports Bar is temporarily closed due to the ongoing pandemic. Please contact the restaurant directly before you visit to see if this is still true before you head out.

If there’s anything in positive to say about this chaotic period in history, it’s this: PJ’s is now serving its stellar fish and chips every day, instead of just on Fridays. Although no one except for staff is currently allowed in the building, PJ’s Village Pub and Sports Bar is still creating its pub fare for carryout that the locals have loved since it opened way back in 1974.

And for good reason too. When we dropped by for some carryout after a hike, we ordered the aforementioned beer-battered fish and chips and a Rueben. Service was speedy and friendly. After we placed the order, it only took about 10 minutes. The fish and chips were everything we wanted and smelled heavenly in our car as we drove back home. The moist fish inside of the thick fried outer layer was a delight to bite into.

When we asked the employee about what sandwich to order, he answered without hesitating: The Rueben. And we can see why. This is one of our top sandwiches in town. The hearty sliced pastrami served with tangy sauerkraut and Swiss cheese in between grilled rye was perfectly balanced and just what we needed after some trail time. As an added bonus, this is a sandwich that keeps well in the fridge if you want leftovers.

And we couldn’t write a review of this place without mentioning the burgers. Try the Classic Burger – topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo and mustard – or opt for the Red Wine Burger – a juicy burger cooked in red wine with caramelized onion, sautéed mushrooms, lettuce and bleu cheese crumbles with port wine mayo. The rest of the menu features everything from lighter fare like salads to heartier bar food like the Roasted Jalapeno Chili Cheese Fries and the Jumbo Vienna Hot Dog.

We can’t wait until we can head back inside PJ’s, and enjoy the colorful atmosphere. But until then, at least we still can enjoy the food. − A Sedona Foodie
