Mesa Grill

Perched on top of Airport Mesa, Mesa Grill is your place for a leisurely, scenic lunch or sunset dinner. Grab a table next to the panoramic windows that look out over Sedona Airport and watch the planes come and go, or take a seat on the patio that boasts the same views. (Dog parents take note: A Doggie Deck menu featuring nibbles for your pooch is available upon request.) You’ll also catch a glimpse of Cathedral Rock and Courthouse Butte. Alternately, take a seat at the modern bar that is decked out with airplane memorabilia.

The menus at Mesa Grill focus on favorites like eggy scrambles, stacked sandwiches and thick burgers alongside fish, steak and pasta. During our lunch visit, we noshed on Executive Chef Mercer Mohr’s Turkey Panini Wrap, which features smoked turkey accented with Oaxaca and cream cheeses. Bacon, avocado, tomato and lettuce finished off the grilled wrap. The standout garnish was the dried cranberries that foiled the rich cheese and smoked turkey with just the right amount of tartness.

We also enjoyed the Pulled Pork Sandwich, which showcases Carolina-style pulled pork topped with barbecue sauce. The sandwich is presented on a toasted brioche bun smeared with a rich chipotle crème. The barbecue sauce and chipotle crème together with a mound of jalapeno slaw really made the sandwich vibrant and distinctive. It was accompanied by the restaurant’s crispy version of a sidewinder fry. The fry cut created great texture while maintaining the comforting potato flavor.

For dessert, we recommend the Coconut Key Lime Pie. This is a silky and solid rendition of the classic, crafted on a coconut-and-graham-cracker crust. It’s sweet and tart and everything a good KLP should be, kind of like the way Mesa Grill is everything a good Sedona restaurant should be. – A Sedona Foodie. Photo by Deb Weinkauff.
