12X12 Exhibition and Fundraiser in Sedona

Think collecting art is out of your price range? Sedona Arts Center wants you to think again. SAC’s 2nd Annual 12X12 Exhibition and Fundraiser returns June 10 and features more than 100 artists who have created 12X12 (or 12X12X12 in the case of three-dimensional art) works that they have donated to the event. Each piece is sold for $250. The kicker: All of the artwork is signed on the back, which means you won’t know whose work has grabbed your attention until you’ve made your purchase.

“It’s a really lively event,” says Kelli Klymenko, SAC’s marketing director. “There are a lot of people out there who want to be art collectors but think they can’t afford it. This is a good opportunity for a potential collector to find an interesting, nice piece they can afford. And some of these pieces are worth way more than $250.”

The fundraiser opens to the public at 6:30 p.m., but at 5:30 p.m. there will be a ticketed preview for those who want to be among the first to see the artwork up close and personal (for a virtual, 360-degree sneak peek and a list of participating artists, visit SAC’s website). Tickets for the preview are $50. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit SAC’s educational programing and outreach efforts. Kelli says SAC hopes to raise $30,000 with 12X12. “We have other fundraisers that support community outreach, but this one helps the organization bring new programming ideas to the community,” says Kelli.

12X12 takes place in SAC’s Special Exhibition Gallery. In the adjacent Theatre Studio, artists participating in 12X12 will exhibit and sell other pieces of work that aren’t necessarily 12X12 in size. The artists will also be signing work and meeting art lovers in the studio. Those who have purchased 12X12 paintings will have the option of purchasing a modestly priced frame in the Theatre Studio created by local craftsman Marc DuCharme. Food and drinks will also be served. The salon and the fundraiser will continue throughout the weekend, though the majority of the artwork is expected to sell Friday night. – Erika Ayn Finch
