Patty Larkin

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Patty Larkin visited Sedona for the first time in 2010, performing to a sold-out audience at Studio Live. “Besides the beauty of the location, I was charmed by the audience,” says Patty, who lives in Cape Cod, Mass. “You could just feel the energy in the room – I felt like I was a witness to your community. My show was an excuse for everyone to come together, and I loved it. This time, I’ll be coming from Mesa Verde National Park, [Colo.], so it will be one big cosmic trip.”

Armed with her acoustic and electric guitars, Patty returns to Red Rock Country and Studio Live on Feb. 11 with her unique brand of urban-folk and pop music. Her original songs reinterpret traditional folk, rock, pop and bossa nova. As Patty describes it, she draws on “anything from Bob Dylan to Dylan Thomas.” Her set list will include songs from her most recent CD, 25, a collection of love songs celebrating 25 years since the release of her first album. She says she’ll also debut a few new tracks from her forthcoming as-yet-untitled CD. It will be Patty’s 13th album.

Patty grew up in an artistic and musical family in Milwaukee, Wis. She started studying classical piano when she was only 7. Inspired by the pop and folk music of the ’60s, Patty taught herself guitar; she was performing at coffeehouses in Oregon and San Francisco when she was in high school and college. She moved to Boston, busking on the streets of Cambridge and studying jazz guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (she’s the recipient of the college’s Honorary Doctorate of Music degree and its Distinguished Alumni Award). Patty’s music has appeared in several movies and television shows including Homicide and Men in Trees. – Erika Ayn Finch
