Up the Creek

Remember the old saying about how you should never find yourself “up the creek without a palate?” That’s a fact when it comes to good food, so make sure your taste buds are in tip-top condition when you visit this long-established destination in Cornville. Sure, the restaurant offers nifty views of leafy Oak Creek through its room-length picture window, but it’s the eats that generate the heat here.

Up the Creek is widely recognized for its upscale menu, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Page Springs Burger is one of the most scrumptious sandwiches to be found in the Verde Valley. The hefty half-pound black Angus beef burger is buried under a pile of green chilies, grilled mushrooms and cheddar cheese and dabbed with luscious chipotle mayonnaise. You’ll swear that you died and went to burger heaven. Bonus: Up the Creek is located smack dab in the middle of Verde Valley’s wine country – DA Ranch is just across the creek – and there are numerous local wines on the restaurant’s illustrious list. – Joe McNeill
