An Editor A-Blog: Paris Fashion Report

June 24, 2016 (12:02 a.m.)

The weather has been pretty gloomy for the majority of my time in Paris, but that all changed two days ago. The sun came out, and so did the bare shoulders and legs and exposed toes. Apartment windows have been flung open and car windows rolled down. Summer has arrived, and so has sale season. The deals to be had are nothing short of remarkable (our weekend sales pale in comparison), and every boutique boasts big “soldes” signs in the windows. I spent the morning at Galeries Lafayette (pictured above – the French really know how to do department stores), partly because it has air conditioning and partly because it’s a great place for people watching. the grand magasin was bustling with shoppers from all walks of life, some purchasing luggage just to be able to travel home with all their finds. People were actually lines up to enter the Longchamps and Chanel stores. So for all my fashionista friends requesting the lowdown on what the elusive Parisian woman is wearing right now, this one’s for you. Here’s a sampling of what has caught my eye on the streets and in the boutiques over the past two weeks.

  • Ponytails, buns and unkempt locks
  • Scarves. Scarves. Scarves. Cotton. Silk. Knit. Cashmere.
  • Chucks and Birkenstocks and ballet flats
  • Hi-top sneakers
  • Birkins and Boy Bags and Longchamp totes and rolling shopping sacks
  • Trench coats and umbrellas – really cute umbrellas dotted with flamingos
  • Tiny dogs
  • Stripes
  • Navy blue blazers
  • Red lips
  • Helmets
  • Mom jeans and crop tops
  • NY Yankees baseball caps
  • Exposed lingerie (or sheer clothing with no lingerie at all)
  • Full skirts, short skirts, long skirts (while riding a scooter, I might add)
  • Cigarettes
  • Not a pajama bottom or pair of yoga pants in sight

Long live Parisian style. –Erika Ayn Finch
